LAKE, George - MD B&ME

"George Lake, colored, was hanged at Cambridge, Md,
on June 29 5 1883, for commiting a felonious assault
apon Mrs. Stewart C. Simmons in April last,"

",..Lake slept well last night and ate a hearty breakfast
this morning, The execution was witnessed by about thrrty
persons. None of Lake's family were present. ‘The culprit!
neck was not broken and he died of strangulation, showing
only three slight convulsions. Life waspronounced extinct
in 64 minutes." NWS, Galveston, Texas, 6-30-1883 (l-5).
