NORKIN, Reuben

Norkin, a 30-year-old white man, was an automobile mechanic and weld-
er who had a shop in Bronx, N, Y, He was acquainted and friendly
with Abraham Becker, a married man who had grown tired of his wife
and who was in love with another woman, He agreed to help Becker to
dispose of his wife and they dug a grave behind his welding shop, On
the night. of April 6, 1922, Mr, and Mrs, Becker arrived there in an
automobile that Becker had purchased from Norkin and asked him to
inspect it, Becker drove the car behind Norkin's building and there
knocked Mrs, Becker unconscious, Becker and Norkin then threw her,
still alive, into the grave and buried her, after which Becker paid
Norkin $100 for his assistance and they went to a nearby restaurant
and ate. Becker reported his wife missing the next day and it was
not until several months later that police, learning of his attach-
ment for theother woman, began to suspect him, He was taken into
custody and after he had beenarrested, one of his friends revealed
to the officers that one night while Becker had been drin king he had
