}head, which knocked her down and struck her two more after
}she fell, which killed her, When she fell, she begged of
me not to kill her, I then went into the house, both the
children were on the bed and awake, and I took up the Doc-
tor's pantaloons and took out what money he had in them,
andethen went.to Mr, Brown's and told them that somebody
was a killing of them. 1 suppose the youngest child was
killed by the scuffling on the bed with Mrs, Longgon, I
did not strike it a lick with anything, nor did i Intend
killing either of the children, and I would not have
killed Mrs, Longgon if she had not waked up and I killed he
because I was afraid she would tell of it," -

and was made a day or two before execution: "!'On Tuesday
night ~ (April, 188), sometime after the whole family
had laid down and about midnight, I went at got a broad-
axe that was sticking in a crack near the door; I took
the axe and went into the house, both doors being open, so
that any body could go in, The family were all lying on
the floor asleep, Ilcrept up to the place where they were
lyigg and choppdd off Dr, Longgon s heads striking him 3
licks with the broadaxe, which cut his head nearly off;
On striking the first Picks. accidentally cut the oldest
child, Sarah, on the arm, which eried out, and after a
while waked up Mrs. Longgon, but not until after I had
struck the Dr, the three times. Mrs. Longgon got up and
