S. C., today for murder,"

CONSTITUTIONALIST, Augusta, Ga., 3=28-187);

Charleston NEWS & COURIER, 3/28/187) identifie

him as Samuel Banks, an employee of the Dorn
Mining Co. On 11-15-1873 he killed a friend
named William Shedd while in a drunken fit.
Both men had been acquitted of the murder of
a negro a year Prien Banks was hanged on
the day before his 23rd birthday. Said to be
the first white man executed in Abbeville Co,
