"Morganfield, Ky., May 8, 1885-lthere was a great crowd of
people in town to see the hanging of Moses Caton which
took place at 1 o'clock tdday. The hanging was to have
been private, but the people of Union County said if a
fence was built around the scaffold, they would tear it
down, and so it was thought best to let people see it,
Caton protested his innocence of the crime to thelast,

The crime for which Caton was hanged is the murder of a
widow, whom he married for a little property, After bring-
ing her home he and his family, including a Mrs, Fritz

with whom he had been living, persecuted the woman and
