and finally she refused to live with him longer and left, moving to
Frederick, Okla, He became involved with Bernice Scott, a white pros-
titute, who had become angered at her lover, a black hotel porter,
when he refused to move from Altus and live with her as man and wife,
and they plotted to kill both Sylvia Young without whom he meintained
he had not interest in living and the porter, Both purchased pistols
and after practicing and perfecting their shooting, Miss Scott made
a date to meet the porter on a road outside of Altus. She drove
Young's car and he lay down in the back seat. When the porter refused
to walk over tbh the car, she began firing at him and he leaped from
his own car and ran into the woods, being shot at by both Miss Scott
and Young, Highway Patrolman fone Barter heard the gunshots and went
to investigate. They told him that they were merely practicing shoot-
ing and that they had only one weapon, Miss Scott surrendered her
pistol and while Barter was placing it in his automobile, Young shot
