FOWLER, Royal

Fowler, a 26-year-old white native of Dayton, Ohio, was married and
had..a-.family in Pemmsylvania. On a WASXEXKE trip home to visit his
mother, -he. fell passionately in love with Mamie Hagerty who lived
around.-the corner. He deserted his wife and family and returned to
Hayton to live with his mother in order that ine might be near Miss
Hagerty. X&6# Their affair continued for three years during which
Fowler served three terms in the Dayton Work House for assault and
battarys on her that were prompted by jealous. He repeatedly begged
her to marry her, but she consistently refused because he was already
married. On the evening of August 18, 1906, he approaced her as she
was leaving her house to go to a grocery store and told her that he
was going to kill her. He followed as she ran into the house and on
into the back yard, firing a pistol at her. ‘Two of the bullets took
effect and she was killed. Tried, convicted and sentenced to death y
he was converted to religion prior to his execution, and his last

words were: "I have nothing to say only that I trust all to God,"
He was electrocuted at the Ohio State Prison on Nov. lL, 1907.
