Black convict who had been sentenced for murder to the
West Virginia State Penitentiary (his home was Maben,
W yoming County) and subsequently transferred to the
prison farm at Huttonsville. On Jan. 20, 1915, he
raped and murdered Lucy Ward, seamstress in Huttonsville
