JONES, C. Walter

Jones, a white man, was hanged at Montgomery, Ala., on
April h, 1913, for the murder of Sloan Rowan, a Lowndes
Co. merchant. As the execution was in progress, a jury
was acquitting Henry Vandiver who Jones’ claimed was
instigator of the crime, He and Gilmer, executed on
same day, were first white men to be hanged in Monte
gomery County since the Civil Ware
