"On Friday Last (8-1-1856), two negroes named Henry and
Smith, convicted of the murder of Mr, Thomas Terry, were
executed at Goochland C, H,., Va., in the presa@ce of an
| immense crofid. They had been confined’in the jail of Pow-
hatan County, and on Friday morning were made to walk
several miles to the place of execution, Smith persisted
in declaring his innocence of the murder and in the hope
of inducing him to make a confession, the 6fficers first
hung Henry who died after a short struggle. Smith still
refused to develop anything concerning tye transaction
and the sentence of the law was carried into effect upon
him, it is proper to state that the evidence of their
