Docket (18);7-1868), Superior Court, Office of Clerk of
Superior Court, Perquimans County Courthouse, Hertford,NC,
shows that at the Spring Term 189 a slave named Charles
was sentenced to be hanged on 18 May next. I do not know
whether the sentence was actually carried out..." Ltr dtd
