Peach, a veteran of ZAKS war against the Indians, was described as a
Wlustie and a desperate yonge man", who refused to work, had sank
deeply in debt and impregnated a young serving BRaX girl, convinced
Jackson, Stinnings and Yaniel Cross to leave the MABKXSKMRSEXE
Plymouth Plantations with him. To finance their journey, they de-
cided to rob BSMERSX someone. They met an Indian on the road and
offered him some tebacco and as they ware smoking, Peach stabbed
him repeatedly with a rapier, They left the Indian for dead, but
he made his way to a nearby Indian camp and related what had happened
The other Indians went to-a white settliementx and brought back a
doctor who heard the whole story.$+ The four men were captured when
they attempted to rent a canoe from some other Indians and were
turned over SK&XE to the white authorities only upon receiving
assurances that they would be tried and punished. Cross escaped
and was never heard from again, but Peach,- Jackson and “tinnings
were all convicted of murder and sentenced, to hang. Many people
opposed the idea of hanging white men for the murder of an Indian
but it was deemed hecessary to do so to prevent a war. Accordingly,
they were hanged some time in-1638.
