that Becker _had_confessed,_so—the message—was-not delivered-—and—in
of being freed, Becker was hanged MEXX on October 6, 1915, A new
"gallows had been constructed for the exeuction, painted #hite with
black stripes to give it a mournful appearance, equipped with a sca-
ffold supported by a post. This was fas tened by a taut rope to ano~-
ther post mixes and so designed as to trigger when the sheriff rode his
horse against the rope removing the support. Becker went to his death
with calmness and, as he was considered a good Singer, he was allowed
so sing several hymns, one of which was his own composition, before
being executed. When the Sheriff made his first circiit around the
sceffold on horseback, he failed to EEX¥REEXERS hit the rope, but on
his second circle he struck it with his foot and Becker was hanged,

Becker, a 60-year-old white farmer, resided near Mayfield, Fulton Co,
