his home at Annville of his two young grandchildren,
Sammy Speraw and Willie Kahler, aged 5 and 3, on May 30,
1887; children were the orphaned offspring of Showers!
daughter; Showers was enamoured of a young whman who he
wished to marry but she would have none of the children
who lived at his home; was 60 years of age, a carpenter
and a war veteran; he strangked the children then
“orained them with a blunt instrument and buried them in
a ditch 70 yards from the house™; explained thier absence

by stating they had run away into the mountains while he
