 COGGINS, Herman

29-year-old white man, electrocuted Tennessee State Pri-
son (Davidson County) on Nov, 10, 1927, Was a World War
I veteran, having served in the 30th Division, 115th
Machine Gun Battallion in France. Was the son of a Lt,
in the Nashville fire department. Convicted of having
raped the 10-year-old daughter of a neighbor who had
bought his child in out of the cold in North Nashville,
Paper says crime occurred on Jane 27, 1927, but I find
no ref erence in Nashville TENNESSEAN for Jan, 27 or
Jan, 28 (the roll runs from 12-5-1926 to 12-28-1927.)
The paper also states that he was the first white man con-
viected in Davidson County to be executed, though I doubt
this. Possibly the first convicted of rape,
