QUONG SHICK

Quong Shick, a lleyear-old Chinaman, had served a sentence for assault
at San Guentin Prison during which time he was. employed. by .the..warden,
James H@XKS Holohan, as his personal chef, After his releasey..Quong
Shick went to Colusa where, on June 17, 1933. he got Lnto an-argument
with Lee Huey Doo, an aged Chinese storekeeper. over a. five-cent--cup-
cake. Quong Shick shot and killed the elderly merchant. His attor-
neys sbaght to show that the murder was actually preciptated mkk over
tong differences arid, after Quong Shick had been sentenced to death,
they fought for a commutation of the sentence on the grounds that tong
interference had prevented a fair trial, Prior to his being hanged by
his former employer, Warden Holohan, at San Quentin on Feb. 9, 193),
Quong Shick was converted to Christianity and his last words » Spoken
trom the gallows, were:"I am ready to go. My father's house has eve ry:
thing prepared, lt is a beautiful place, it believe in Jasus and
thank the lord that he sent vou to find me,"
