Fox, described as a "dissolute character™ nad known Thomas Noward
when-both lived in Adrian Yo.§ Mo, They had both moved to Nevada,
Moe, and a short time later, on May ou 1883, they spent the evening
drinking and earousing together. ater that night Fox lured Howard
toa deserted part of the town near the railroad tracks, shot him in
the head three times, and hid the body where it was discovered the
next morning. Fox was immediately taken into custody and confessed.
As the court was then in BBB session, he was taken before the judge
and offered to plead guilty which would have resulted in a pr&son —
sentence. The judge refused to accept the guilty plea, entered a
plea of not guilty and_ordered_a_trial at acta Hox was convictad
and sentenced to hang The execution w as carried out in Nevada
on Dec. 2, 1883, before a large crowd of witnesses which included
Fox's wife and father and Howard's widow, _
