HOWELL, Joseph A, LARGE CARD

"According to the 'Centennial History of Grundy County
(Trenton, Mo.e)', published in 1939, there has been only
one hanging in this county.

On August 10, 1893, Joseph A, Howell was hanged for the
murder of Mrs, Minnie Hall and her four children, in
linn County, Jan. 19, 1890. The trial dragged out three

years and finally came to Grundy County by change of ve-
nue,"
