DREAMER, Robert

| Dreamer, a white 30-year-old switchman for the Pennsylvania Railroad,
was a big man with tke a big sexual appetite. His wife was ultimately
to leave him under orders from her doctor. When he failed to achieve
the satisfaction that he craved at home, he prowled the back streets
and deserted areas of Washington, Pae, in search of lone women whom —
he might threaten and assaulte On the night of Dec. 29, 1927, as
17-year-old Thelma Young.walked through some woods in a heavy fog
returning home from a movie, he stepped from behind sbme bushes and
grabbed her by the necke When the girl resisted him, he bludgeoned
her to death with a brick and raped her. The body was discovered the
next morning and the only clues were a brown button evidently torn
from the overcoat of the murderer and the prinf€. of a hugh hand in the
mud evidently made when the killer pushed himself up after he had
completed his assault. For eight years, the police, frustrated by
false confessions and false leads, sought the killer of the girl with-
out successe In 1936, some girls finally came forward and gave state-

ments to the police in which they described the man who had assaulted
