VADP Board Meeting Agenda
February 28, 2011 7:45 - 8:45 pm

Attending: Jon, Steve, Matt S., Lynn, Greg, Hunter, Scott, Helena, and Lori
Baux (from NCADP)

1. Approval of January 11, 2011 minutes - approved

2. Richmond and Charlottesville offices - January hectic with GA session and
the several events already held. Steve has admin support at Troutman
Sanders. Steve and Matt are communicating primarily through phone and
email. They will look for opportunities to meet in person as well, especially
once Michael Stone is on board (also in a Richmond office).

3. Finances - $90,099 Current Account Holdings budgeted for 2011. YTD
expenses ($8,447.61) more than expected due to a paycheck carry over for
Matt from December, 2010.

4. Major Donor reporting - Matt needs updates from Board to input into
database for accurate information for future solicitations. Friday, Matt will
email Board members who've not reported back. Steve to follow up re Kaine
calls with board members.

5. Results of 2011 General Assembly Session - Obenshain introduced
triggerman bill limited to rape/murder and got Saslaw’s vote. Sen. Deeds
was the critical vote to the bill’s defeat (8-7). He’d been influenced by a
conversation with Jon last year. Steve met him 3 times, he was contacted by
VADP supporters, inc. J. Whitehead. VADP focused on Deeds w/ Action
Alerts, got positive feedback. After telling Jon and Steve in November that
he would not oppose our bill to improve the system for setting execution
dates, AG Cuccinelli decided to oppose it, and Katherine Baldwin Burnette
spoke against the bill at the House subcommittee level, which voted to table
the bill. VCC is our strongest ally on DP legislation. Building relationships
with legislators who now vote against us will pay off in long run.

6. 2011 NCADP Conference in Chicago Jan. 13-15 - Was positive in
establishing relationships, momentum, and allowed Steve to speak with
Dianne R-T re: NCADP Position.

7. Update on NCADP staff person position - Michael Stone on board March
21. Technically a 2 year position, but only 18 months for VA. He will focus
on grassroots and educational programming and help Matt with EJUSA
database. Steve will find out if Michael is available for May Strategic
Planning. Steve and Michael will meet in DC with Diane Rust-Tierney (ED of
NCADP) re:lines of reporting and supervision for Michael. NCADP has
indicated to Jon that Michael will report to VADP. Steve will contact Texas

Coalition to glean feedback on their experience with integrating their
NCADP staff person.

8. Outreach to conservatives/Republicans - A main priority. Steve is
identifying legislators. The Republican head of Richmond BBB, Tom
Gallagher, is a potential Board candidate. Greg - Bill Wardell (conservative
Catholic), wants to meet in Spring. Steve giving a talk about why
conservatives should be against the death penalty to a conservative group
in Williamsburg area. Greg would like to show “No Tomorrow” at
Charlottesville churches.

9. Witness to Innocence Annual Meeting in Richmond June 9-12, 2011 -
Press conference/public meeting, possibly at capital. Will feature exonerees,
perhaps John Grisham. Friday or Saturday June 10 or 11. Would like Board
members to attend.

10. Update on EJUSA Database - Steve, Matt, and Michael conference call
with Colleen of EJUSA Wed. to discuss transition. Database has many
advantages over current one. Lori: Kansas doing transition now. Steve will
contact his Kansas counterpart to find out how it is going.

programmer on inexpensive solutions to increase usability and visual
appeal. Matt and Helena will discuss suggestions and priorities in this
matter.
