Keynote Speaker
Mike Farrell

Mike has spoken, written and lobbied against the death
penalty for over three decades. Since 1994 he has been
president of Death Penalty Focus, the California-based
organization he founded and one of the abolition move-
ment’s leading organizations. Mike is best known for his
role as “B.J. Hunnicutt” in the television series M*A*S*H.

Honoree

Joe Giarratano
Sentenced to death in 1979 for a crime he did not
commit and unable to prove his innocence in court,
Virginia Gov. Douglas Wilder granted Joe a conditional
pardon commuting his sentence to life. Granted parole
last year, Joe works for the Innocence Project at UVA.
Joe is being honored for his legal actions to save the life
of Earl Washington, Jr. and for prison reform in Virginia.
