VADP Board Meeting
August 1, 2011 7:30 - 8:30 pm

In attendance: Matthew Engle, Beth Panilaitis, Lauren Ramseur, Scott
Vollum, Lynn Greer, Steve Northup, Matt Sellman

June 21, 2011 minutes approved.

Financial Update - include average monthly expense in Board
meeting reports.

Jerry Terrell Jackson execution - Matthew E., Matt S. will attend
Jarrat vigil. Staff will send supplementary email action alert
informing members of Gov. McDonnell’s tendency for early
clemency decisions and encouraging action if not yet taken.

Justin Wolfe case - Encouraging Bill Broaddus to author editorial
urging VA State Bar to take action against P. Ebert in light of
Jackson ruling of prosecutorial misconduct. Facebook, Twitter, and
the VADP website are crucial in spreading the word and will be
utilized to their fullest. Board encouraged to leave (or reply to)
Facebook comments from public, as they are viral in their
outreach.

VADP’s ineligibility to apply for a Tides Foundation grant in 2012
underscores the importance of Board members staying in touch
with major donors. The Board is also encouraged to pursue
alternative ways to fundraise i.e. Firstgiving.com, which provides
an easy and proven successful way to fundraise online. Contact
Steve to brainstorm ideas.

Salsa update - we are transferring our database information to
Salsa Labs for upload to a new online database, providing many
advantages over our existing system. Full up-front cost has been
covered by NCADP but monthly subscription cost will be borne by
VADP.

Communications Task Force (Steve, Matt, Michael, Helena) -
Michael Stone has submitted a request to NCADP for supplemental
funding from an EU Grant for VA state affiliate development in
order that VADP pursue a website redesign and possible logo
“freshening” as well as a Social Media Project to produce
professional video testimonials from several important members of
Virginia’s abolition community to be posted on VADP’s website.
Details on potential costs will be provided as the decision
processes mature.

VADP and Beth Wood at MVFR are developing a Volunteer
Interview Project with Murder Victims’ Family Members to provide
the public with a new perspective on the death penalty and which
will be posted to our website and disseminated through social
media outlets.

9. Plaque for dedication and service to VADP will be given to Jon
Sheldon with accompanying letter from Matthew E.
10. Next VADP Board Meeting proposed for week of September 19.
