Dear Dr. Mabry,

lam writing on behalf of the board of directors of Virginians for
Alternatives to the Death Penalty (VADP) to express our condolences on
the recent death of your husband, Hunter.

I only met Hunter once when he attended a VADP regional meeting at the
Unitarian Church in Roanoke. But I interacted with him on a number of
other occasions via e-mail and phone. I was impressed by his passion and
commitment for the abolition of capital punishment.

I have heard from others that Hunter served on the VADP board of
directors with distinction. Here are a few comments by others who knew
and worked with him then:

He was a great board member, passionate, outspoken, smart. I very
much appreciated that he was willing to question the old way of
doing things.

Hunter was a loyal and valuable board member and an inspiring
person.

He was a good servant of the Lord.

As one who has been married to his wife for nearly thirty years, I cannot
imagine your grief with Hunter’s death.

I hope that our expression of condolence may give you some small solace.
