Dear Charles,

We have a unique opportunity to abolish the death penalty in Virginia in
the next few years and we need your help now. You can help us maintain
our strong positive momentum.

No one has been sentenced to death in Virginia since September 2011,
nearly seven years! There are only three men on death row, and it is
likely that death row will be empty by 2020.

Earlier this year 18 Republicans and Libertarians signed a letter
supporting a major death penalty reform bill, including former
Republican Attorneys General Ken Cuccinelli and Mark Early as well as
former Congressman Thomas Bliley.

However, all this progress is now in jeopardy. Our largest single

funding source has told us not to expect any grants from them for either
2018 or 2019.

This blows a $40,000 hole into our budget, nearly 23% of our 2018
expenses.

If we cannot raise an additional $20,000 by the end of this year, VADP
will have to either slash salaries or lay off our very effective Field
Organizer.

Since he was hired in May 2017, Dale Brumfield has met with nearly 150
civic, business, & religious leaders in key areas like Martinsville,
Danville, Moneta, Galax, Elkton, Shenandoah, Winchester, and Lebanon.
Many of these local leaders are now VADP supporters.

You invested $5,000 in VADP’s work on December 12, 2016. Late last
year you sent $1,000.

Can you increase your support to VADP within the next few
months? A $3,000 - $5,000 donation would go a long way to
helping us raise this additional $20,000.

I would be happy to schedule a phone appointment to talk about this
request or to meet with you in person. Just let me know what works best

for you.

Please help us to keep Virginia moving toward abolition.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Stone
