1. Of your organizational budget, how much is for death penalty-related work? (Please submit a 2017 budget-
to-actuals)
100% of VADP’s work is focused on death penalty reform & abolition.
2. How much did you receive from 8AP collaborative funders* for death penalty-related work
in 2017? $ 40,000
in 2016? $ 38,000
o How much funding is raised outside national funders?
In 2016, VADP raised $74,610 from individual donors & from faith communities.
In 2017, VADP raised $91,769 from individual donors & from faith communities as well as
$25,000 from the Sisters of Bon Secours & $5,000 for capacity building.
o What fundraising activities do you engage in?
VADP raises most of its funds through the following methods:
a. two postal mail appeals in May and in November,
b. e-mail appeals several times during the year seeking monthly contributors,
c. an annual awards luncheon to which we sell tickets, and
d. several “friend-raising” events hosted by supporters that identify new major donors.
3. How much are you currently seeking from the 8AP collaborative funders* for death penalty-related work in
2018? $30,000 (a decrease of $10,000 from last year’s DPMF grant)
If this amount represents an increase from the prior year, is that because: N/A
(a) you hope to expand your death penalty-related work?
(b) the increase is a replacement for other grants/donations that you no longer expect to receive?
(c) some other reason. Please explain.
4. How much of your total budget do you receive from non-8AP related sources?
In 2016 VADP raised 66% of its income from other sources. In 2017 we raised 72% from other sources.
o What are the total FTEs dedicated to fundraising? About 20% of the Executive Director’s time
5. When do you anticipate needing this funding? Please provide relevant information in terms of both
notification and cash flow. 8AP anticipates notifying recipients of funding decisions in November 2018.
VADP would appreciate receiving 8AP funds by the end of this 2018 calendar year.
But we could wait as long as January 31, 2019 if need be.
* 8AP collaborative funders include Open Society Foundations, Atlantic Philanthropies, Fund for Nonviolence,
Butler Family Fund, Wallace Global Fund, Tides Foundation, Vogal, Akonadi Foundation, and Porticus
North America.
