| am pleased to award Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty a capacity grant to
support your work to end the death penalty in Virginia.

Tides has fee a long history of supp’ state policy izations working to

abolish the death penalty in various states. ‘With the shifting funding landscape and the

national strategy led by the 8" Amendment Project, we see a tremendous need to help

ensure that these organizations maintain the financial sustainability needed for this work in

the next few years and potentially beyond, and want to I ge our and to provide
these organizations that support.

Why Your Organization Was Selected

You have been selected to be part of this initial cohort because you have participated in the 2015
and/or have the need and propensity to build out your fundraising

efforts and secure major contributions for your work.

What's Provided to You

Tides has engaged The Suddes Group to provide indivi ing for state izations and will
provide this support to your organization in-kind. Many of you have benefited from their fundraising
bootcamp last year and follow-up 1g. The individual provi to you through our 2016

Capacity Grant Program will be up to 40 hours over a 6-month period, valued at $10,000, starting in mid-
July, 2016. There will also be a potential cash grant of up to $5,000, pending further approval, as you go
through the coaching and fundraising activities, to support any needs for prospecting, donor cultivation,
and fundraising trips. You will be asked to submit a short application for these funds.

What's Required of You
This is a significant investment Tides is making, and we'd like to ensure that it is successful and adds
value to the abolition movement. We'd like to ask that you sign a commitment letter to ensure that you:

¢ Make a commitment of time.
As envisioned, the program will oer up to 40 hours of coaching support over six months. More
coaching support will be are st ing the action plan.
We will be asking each ryarteation to identify a weekly time commitment to devote to fundraising
and the strategies developed from this program. The Suddes Group would like to see each
organization successfully engage with at least 5-10 , So the time i is not
meant to be onerous. What's more important is 'the commitment! to this as a priority.

¢ Designated point person for the program.
Each group needs to designate one person to interface with The Suddes Group and lead the

effort. There will be opportunities to engage your complete team but for the program format to
work, The Suddes Group will need to focus coaching and support through one point-of-contact.

¢ Make a small financial commitment.
This is also a way to ensure that you are invested in the success of this program. Your financial
contribution will be up to $1,000, and will cover travels needed for The Suddes Group to provide
you on-site coaching and support, paid to The Suddes Group.

Tides will check in with you periodically on the project progress and discuss the need for cash support.
We look forward to working with you to build VADP’s capacity and end the death penalty in Virginia and
nationally.
