JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
State Campaign Coordinator

The National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty (NCADP) is hiring a State Campaign
Coordinator. This is a two-year position, based in Richmond, Virginia. The Coordinator will
support our state Affiliates, including Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, in
advancing the policy debate to lead to repeal of the death penalty. Applications will be
considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

The State Campaign Coordinator will work to support efforts of local advocates in building a
stronger state-wide network of policy advocates and activists to support eventual repeal of the
death penalty in Virginia and across the country. There will be a focus on fundraising,
membership development and effective communications in order to build strong organizations to
educate the public and policy makers about the U.S. and Virginia capital punishment systems.

Job responsibilities for the Coordinator will include:

Partnering with Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (VADP) to:

e Actively raise funds to support the work of VADP.

e Support and actively participate in efforts to broaden VADP’s constituent
base and increase organizational and individual memberships.

e Support and actively participate in efforts to communicate the abolition
message to and with local and regional media, policy makers, and
constituents.

e Evaluate and support effective strategic planning for NCADP and
VADP’s efforts in Virginia.

In addition, up to 20% of the Coordinator’s time will be to:
e Support and actively participate in NCADP’s conference, training, and
affiliate assistance programs.
e Support and actively participate in NCADP’s campaigns.
e Serve as a member of the national staff and support the ongoing work of
the national organization.

Strong candidates will have:

e Atleast 5 years of campaign experience, in issue advocacy or candidate campaigns,
actively managing communications, fundraising and/or field/outreach activities.

¢ Strong fundraising skills, including experience in the development and management of
fundraising plans, and making asks.

e Strong communications skills, including experience writing and editing in an advocacy
setting and familiarity with traditional and contemporary print, mail, broadcast and online
communication vehicles. Experience with HTML/CMS preferred.

¢ Strong interpersonal skills, including experience with and the ability to work within
coalitions.

e Experience with recruiting and retaining constituents and stakeholders in an advocacy
setting.

e A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

e Consistent with NCADP’s mission, a passionate commitment to ending capital
punishment in the United States of America and around the world.

The position reports to NCADP’s Deputy Director. Salary will be commensurate with
experience. Preference will be given to those with experience in Virginia-based issue advocacy.
The position requires moderate travel throughout Virginia and occasional travel to Washington,
DC and other U.S. locations. This is an at-will, two-year position with further employment
contingent on funding. NCADP is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer and
