Scope and Content:

The collection contains correspondence, clemency materials, trial materials and select court documents from the case of Richard Cooey.

Biographical / Historical:

Before her retirement, Margery Koosed served as professor of law at the University of Akron School of Law. Professor Koosed taught capital punishment litigation, frequently wrote and presented on the death penalty, and served for some time as defense counsel for Richard Cooey, executed in Ohio in 2008 for a 1986 double murder.

Margery Koosed donated her papers to the M.E. Grenander Department of Special Collections Archives in 2015 .
