Dear Friends,
The gathering was simply wonderful. Susan Salidor summed it up so
articulately, and we echo her sentiments. You are all such warm and loving
and supportive people. We are honored to be a member of this group.
Peter and | are now officially Board members, and as such, take our
responsibilities very seriously. We hope to shepherd and guide our group
during the next three years, continuing to do the work we all do with so
much love, passion and commitment.
After the first all-day meeting on the Friday of the conference, it became
clear that there is quite a lot of work to do in order to keep our volunteer
organization afloat. This pertains to the conference AND also to the time and
attention it takes to keep the website current, make sure that our beautiful
printed magazine "Pass It On" is published, and other various and important
duties that are involved in maintaining our organization. All done by and for
the membership, which means all of us. While the board agrees to take on
the bulk of the work, we realize that we are much stronger when we work as
a team, when we all pitch in to help each other.
At the gathering's Open Meeting on Saturday afternoon, we announced the
formation of a very important and much needed group of volunteers called
the "Action Core". What is the "Action Core"? It is anyone who is willing to
help, in any capacity, for any amount of time, small or large. If you volunteer
to be on the "Action Core", we will periodically email or call you and ask for
your help. It might be as simple as making a few phone calls or typing up a
list of songs. We will absolutely honor the amount of time you are able and
willing to give, | can promise you that.
lam pleased and delighted to announce that six people who attended the
Gathering have agreed to be the first members of our "Action Core". How
can we thank you? A big hug and a big THANK YOU!!!

Now, some of you might be thinking that six people is plenty. Let me assure
you that the more members we have on the "Action Core", the less work
there will be for each of us to do. So please, come along and join us. Add
your name to the list and help Children's Music Network thrive and continue
to be the nurturing, supportive, committed group of musicians that we are.
Peter & I have given ourselves a challenge. We want to recruit 20
people to be in our "Action Core" group. And we'd like to have this
done by Monday, October 31st! That’s only a few days from now, so
if you’re thinking about it, please join us!
We’d love to have you on board!
If you want to be on our "Action Core", please email and let us know. And
please remember, if we email you for help and you don't have the time,
please feel free to say no. That will be ok, as we're sure you'll be able to help
at another time.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us. Peter and I, as well as
the other members of the board, are here to help guide CMN. We want to
hear from you, we want to know what you're thinking, where you see us
going. We want you to know that we will listen and try to do what we can to
make sure the organization meets your needs.

Please know that I'm open to suggestions from our BOD members. Before
paying for a separate AC listserve, perhaps we could brainstorm about
it. Here are my thoughts...
As issues come up (things that we'd need volunteers) and help needs to
be solicited, the AC needs to be contacted. | could see where it could
be a time sinkhole for me, and | respectfully, don't want that to
happen. SO...... having said that, does this make sense?
If we had an AC listserve, whomever on the BOD needed help would email
the listserve to solicit a volunteer from the AC group. The first person
to reply would get a confirmation email from the said BOD member with
instructions about that "job". The BOD member would then let the AC
group know that the "job" had been filled. He/she could then communicate
personally via email or phone with the AC member who got the "job",
rather than posting that specific information to the entire AC group.
This BOD member would be responsible for staying in touch with the AC
volunteer for follow through. Presumably there would be an understanding
that as you accepted a "job" you could then not feel responsible to
accept another one for awhile, as others would then work their way up
the list of AC members who volunteer to do things.
The benefit of having this listserve is for convenience. Each of us on
the BOD would have access to it, posting for help as needed.
We would probably want to email a list of how this works to the AC
listserve members.
Am | making sense? PLEASE feel free to chime in and let me know if there
could be a better way of doing this.
