CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
NMCS SHINING STAR AWARD
MID-CAREER
The coordinating team for The 10th Biennial NMCS, “Summit Talks: Looking Back to
Move Forward”, is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the NMCS
Shining Star Award, which was inaugurated during NMCS 2015. The goal of this
award is to support the efforts of mid-career psychologist with an interest in
multicultural research, teaching, advocacy, policy, and/or clinical care and to
recognize them at NMCS 2017. This award was created to provide needed support
and encouragement to diverse professionals at a critical stage of their careers. The
awardee must be willing to make a commitment to honoring the principles of
multicultural psychology with the end goal of successfully moving forward in the
candidate’s field of interest.
This is an open call and three (3) awards will be given.
Who Is Eligible?
Eligible candidates will be trained psychologists with a PhD, PsyD, or EdD degree
from the US or Canada. The award is intended for psychologists who have made a
significant impact to multicultural psychology for a sustained period of time.
Therefore, candidates should have over 10 years of professional experience beyond
the doctorate, but less than 30 years, and/or should be at the academic rank of
Associate Professor or the professional equivalent.
Required Nomination Materials
The selection committee will consist of members of the 2017 NMCS planning
committee. Materials are evaluated on the basis of the candidate’s accomplishments
and activities and their commitment to multicultural psychology topics and
concerns.
A nomination should include a cover page with the nominees name, place of work,
and name of the award (i.e., Shining Star). A cover letter from the nominator should
explain how the nominee was selected and highlights the major features of the
candidate’s field of interest. The primary criteria are the quality, significance, and
productivity of the nominee with greatest weight given to those candidates who
demonstrate a clear commitment to the vision and ideals of multicultural
psychology. As well, the review committee also values indications of the quality and
programmatic value of the nominee’s professional efforts.
Accompanying this should be a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae or resume
and a statement (no more than 1 page) by the lead nominator describing the
nominee’s career goals and the specific objectives for the coming year in terms of
activities related to multicultural psychology. If viewable online, a listing or
indication of samples of the candidate’s work (e.g., news articles, blogs, facebook
pages, etc.) of where to find electronic versions may be included. Finally, two (2)
