Til manaam/Shekon (Hello) It is with great humility and enthusiasm; I accept the
nomination to serve as President-elect for the Society of Indian Psychologists (SIP).
Promoting mental health and well-being for the SIP community across Indian country is
essential and is what I will continue. The wonderful example of SIP’s dedication and
guidance towards mental health and well-being among Indigenous professionals and
students are key to being grounded and resilient. SIP continues to provide knowledge
and awareness of issues impacting American Indian/Alaska Native mental health, as
well as collaborating and advocating for those that may not be able to advocate for
themselves. I am of Mohawk (Turtle Clan), Pawnee (Wolf Clan) Coahuiltecan
(Waterbird Clan). I’m an enrolled member of the Tap Pilam Coahuiltecan Nation
(Mission Indian) in Texas. I look forward to the opportunity to serve a community that
has given back so much to our Indigenous people and myself by having the opportunity
to give back in the way of service. I envision SIP as the platform for meetings where
researchers and clinicians meet with colleagues from Indian country to share
information, inform each other of our unique needs, and plan future agendas. We must
use our research and clinical skills to help Indigenous communities and systems in
need, from the individual to the family, village, and city. Collectively, we have a
tremendous amount to offer. I am devoted to building a sense of inclusiveness
throughout the SIP, from our core membership to the communities we serve.
