Society of Indian Psychologists Executive Council Meeting Minutes
September 14, 2011
A conference call with the Executive Council of the Society of Indian Psychologists was held on
September 14, 2011. The meeting convened at approximately 11:00am (CST).
Members in attendance: Patricia Alexander, Jacque Gray, Diane Willis, Wendy Peters, Gayle Morse,
Claudia Antuña and Joanna Shadlow.
Review of the Executive Council meeting minutes from August 10, 2011 was completed.
Patricia Alexander reported that Linda Forest, APA ethics committee member, had been reimbursed
from SIP for her expenses while at the SIP conference.
Patricia Alexander reported that each PayPal transaction will cost approximately $1.25. Conference call
participants agreed that if that would increase our membership it would be worth the cost.
Jacque Gray received a response email from Gail Mason regarding web group that they contracted with
to develop a website. During this discussion Wendy Peters who has been a web master for 10+ years
offered to develop the SIP website. The conference call attendees agreed this was a good idea. Wendy
Peters will begin updating/developing the SIP website, email the link before the site goes public to
Jacque Gray, and will email Patricia Alexander an invoice for cost of the website which should be around
$6-9 a month. Gayle Morse will contact Angela Enno and Margaret Lovekey to get domain information
to Wendy Peters. Wendy Peters and Patricia Alexander will communicate regarding PayPal setup on the
website.
Wendy Peters reported she will contact Gayle Morse regarding “Save the Date” for next year’s 25th
anniversary of SIP conference to invite SIP past presidents by end of the week.
Wendy Peters will take the lead on arranging social activities at APA Hawaii 2013 for SIP attendees.
Gayle Morse suggested brainstorming ways to join SIP forces for a possible SIP symposium or other
research based presentation at APA Hawaii 2013.
Carolyn Barcus requested that a program committee be developed for next year’s SIP conference to help
with organizing the conference program. Carolyn Barcus and Gayle Morse will co-chair with Wendy
Peters, Jacque Gray, and Iva Greywolf on the committee. If any other SIP members are interested in
serving on the committee they should contact Gayle Morse (gayle.morse@usu.edu).
Jacque Gray gave update regarding recent Washington D.C. visit:
*Met with Rose Weahkee, Michael Berryhill, and Jon Perez regarding increasing the relationship
between SIP and IHS. Jacque reported they were excited and very responsive to this idea.
*Reported that concerns were expressed because no new NPSYCH scholarships were awarded
this academic year and they discussed the true need for additional INPSYCH programs since
current INPSYCH spots are not being filled. Conference call participants indicated that new
Native graduate students have enrolled this year, but declined INPSYCH funding. Conference call
participants discussed reasons for lack of students interested in INPSYCH funding.
*Discussed main reasons for not granting counseling psychology students IHS funding. Reason is
likely because when tribes are asked by IHS to see which providers should be funded; tribes only
check the clinical psychology box. Conference call participant’s brainstormed ways to alleviate
this problem by having only one check box on the form that states Licensed Psychologist.
*Ben Vonochen will be the new contact for our APA portfolio.
Action items for next conference call which his set for October 12th at 11am (CST):
*Website update from Wendy Peters.
*Update regarding “Save the Date” for next year’s SIP conference especially for past presidents from
Wendy Peters.
*Discussion from SIP Conference Program Committee for SIP conference in June 2012.
*Discussion regarding possible collaboration on presentation for SIP members at APA Hawaii 2013.
Meeting adjourned at 11:50am.
