Art’s Notes about Financial Considerations
How the time has been used…
1.
Hoffman
2.
Responding to emergent social issues
3.
Begging for money
4.
Representing SIP at meetings
We want to do more as an organization but we are severely limited by our resources (human volunteers
and financial)
Not wise to be financially dependent on other organizations (OEMA and Division 45)
Our budget right now is dependent upon gifts from other organizations
Wendy indicated OEMA money likely going away
Division 45 almost zeroed out our “allotment”
These two organizations we have reliance upon have money issues and will not put SIP first in
terms of priorities when under duress.
Not in the spirit of Native pride or sovereignty to be dependent upon these other organizations
What do other comparable organizations charge for annual dues for non-student members?
AAPA: $75
NLPA: $95
ABPSI: $225 with a life-time membership category: $2500
Options to improve our financial sovereignty:
Increase dues for all members
Increase dues for non-student members
Increase dues for academic members (not clinicians)
Increase registration fees for conference for some or all
Increase membership
By campaigning for new members
By re-engaging our lost birds and lost elders
Offer lifetime membership options (how much?)
Competing realities: Many of us have financial constraints for certain AND somehow many of us are
able to afford APA membership dues which are substantially more than SIP’s. And somehow other
psychologists of color are able to pay substantially more than us to be members of their
organizations.
