Dear Drs Slobig and Marshall:

Dr. Margaret Smith-Zoeller has served Society of Indian Psychologists (SIP) in the capacity of an
Advisory Committee member for the Leadership Development Institute. In SIP board and conference
discussions, there is a desire to develop a mentoring program within our organization for American Indian
graduate students in psychology in order to further their growth and development. Within our
membership, we have had a number of senior American Indian psychologists step forward who are
willing to be mentors.

Dr. Smith-Zoeller noted that in order to have sustainability of both our involvement with LDI and the
development of SIP’s own mentoring program, we would want to develop partnerships with other
American Indian professionals. She proposed an idea of contacting American Indian entrepreneurs in
order to request funding for SIP’s mentoring program. In return, those graduate students who benefited
from the mentoring program would agree to assist with program development or participate in mentoring
programs to American Indian communities that are currently being funded by the entrepreneurs.
Dr. Smith-Zoeller would like to attend a 2 day United Global Shift workshop held in New York on
February 9 and 10, 2013 in order to develop this proposal for SIP further. As we do not have the funds to
support her attendance, we would request that you assist her travel expenses. She would be going as our
representative for the purposes of developing a sustainable project proposal for the SIP mentoring
program. In return, she would be expected to submit a completed proposal to SIP by no later than May 1,
2013. She has agreed to serve on the project in whatever capacity we determine. Additionally, she agrees
to share the information provided by United Global Shift with SIP membership in order to help with other
future projects.

Your support and encouragement with this effort would be of great help to the Society of Indian
Psychologists and the development of more American Indian professional psychologists. If I may
provide further information please contact me at JacqueGray@aiansip.org or 701-777-0582.
Respectfully,

Dr. Jacqueline S. Gray, President
