Society of Indian Psychologists Presidential Trio Meeting Minutes

A conference call with the Presidential Trio of the Society of Indian Psychologists was held on Friday,
May 22, 2020. The meeting convened at approximately 4:00pm (EST).
Members in attendance: Iva GreyWolf, Joe Gone, Gayle Morse, and Royleen Ross
I.
Zoom coverage
a.
Gayle will be busy with other commitments on 05.29.2020

Zoom information will be provided to Royleen for trio and Circles of Support meetings

Security code no longer in use; lock room after 10 minutes; use of waiting room
II.
Article for Journal of Indigenous Research
a.
Medical reason explanation for COVID 19 and worse in Navajo territory
b.
Authors: toxicologist/scientist background; one works with a Nobel Peace Prize winner
c.
Assertion Native people are from China; speechless response
d.
Opportunity for teaching; educate them a bit and may still publish

Steve Fund
a.
Gayle advised a UND student sent an email to request information; no call went out
b.
Outlined rules for award; required to present at SIP
c.
Past award recipient Melissa Wheeler

Iva advised if interested person meets criteria, done deal
IV.
Charge and Call for Nominations regarding an APA approved Task Force on Strategies to
Eradicate Racism, Discrimination, and Hate (deadline June 1, 2020)

Discussion on feedback, wordsmithing, inclusion to participate
b.
Iva will contact Joanna, as Council, she can interface and report feedback
V.
Election
a.
Candidate announcements (Gayle), provide information to Wendy for ballot (one
treasurer, one secretary, 4 students with rotation – one slot)
b.
Wendy will walk through new website next week
c.
Convention registration not working – have not heard anything back
d.
Joe document election process and replicate in future elections
e.
Membership discussion; Joe will check back for updated roll post 05.31.2020
f.
Will test ballot process then send out and designate deadline date; count

Shaun Hain’s Request
a.
Sent two WHO requests; Gayle will follow up
b.
Tina Lincourt working on Garrett Lee Smith grant – may be able to assist

Miscellaneous
a.
Gayle going to UN this year. Will be held online next week and will bring back info
b.
Interviews about COVID -19. Iva sent requests to Vicky, Carolyn, Alberta as requests
doesn’t stop with leadership. Requests should go to people with lived experience
c.
Discussion on donations to credible resources
d.
Iva’s response to APA and Native psychologists - suggestion in collective sense and not
being able to tell how many Native psychologists we have
e.
Support Circle update – Gene Hightower, Alberta Arviso, Jacque Gray, Marge Smith
(requested 1.5 hours); maintain time of 1 hour
f.
Minutes- will send to Joe/ Newsletter- may end with Gayle when she rotates off
g.
Charlotte MCloskey attend trio meetings; shadowing as LDI mentee
