was a mystic and a Sufi. Iranians are a people of poetry and art with a long historical culture that includes beauty in all
forms. Gracias a la vida was one of the many beautiful songs written and performed by Violeta Parra, [October 4, 1917 to
February 5, 1967]. She lived in Chile all her life and was the mother of 5 children.

Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval was a Chilean composer, songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and
visual artist. Wikipedia.

I've included several different versions of her song that emphasize different aspects of the music and how it's been
performed over several decades.

By November 20, the moon had edged up past Saturn. Richard Hasbrouck in Truchas, New Mexico wrote: “My
wife said ‘look out to the southwest,’ and there it was. Grabbed camera and dashed out to the end of the drive
(to avoid power lines). Saturn is just visible below and to the left. Lights of Los Alamos are in the lower right.”

But there is more to gratitude than just appreciating what you and those around you may have. There is also the need to care
for all who share the world and are sister and brother travelers and part of the worldwide web of life. [caption

The universe is a complete
unique entity. Everything and
everyone is bound together with
some invisible strings. Do not
break anyone’s heart; do not
look down on weaker than you.
One's sorrow at the other side
of the world can make the entire
world suffer; one’s happiness
can make the entire world
smile. -- Shams Tabrizi

On March 13, 1941 Mahmoud Darwish was born in Al Birweh, Palestine, into a land-owning Sunni Muslim
family. During the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, his village was destroyed and his family fled to
Lebanon. They returned the following year, secretly re-entering Israel. As a young man, Darwish faced house

arrest and imprisonment for his political activism and for publicly reading his poetry. He joined the official
Communist Party of Israel, the Rakah, in the 1960s. In 1970, he left for Russia, where he attended the
University of Moscow for one year, and then moved to Cairo. He lived in exile for twenty-six years, between
Beirut and Paris, until his return to Israel in 1996, after which he settled in Ramallah in the West Bank.
Considered Palestine’s most eminent poet, Darwish published his first collection of poems, Leaves of Olives, in
1964, when he was 22. Since then, Darwish has published approximately thirty poetry and prose collections
which have been translated into more than twenty-two languages. [...]

One more note: This song, written by Bernice Johnson Reagon of Sweet Honey is based on the words of an earlier civil
rights worker, Ella Baker. Here's one of the comments on the video that says more:

Powerful tribute to unsung Civil Rights Leader Ella Baker, who largely went unrecognized and unsupported by
the predominately male led movement. Love that she led and served youth and students ANY WAY for many
decades! Thanks Sweet Honey. Done as only they can do!!! LOVE THEM. Have seen them many times LIVE
and it is always an awesome experience. We WILL NOT REST!!
