A graphic message to Senator Chuck Schumer: Represent
the interests of your constituents!

Meshugenahs Marching to War was the title of a recent call to action by Jewish Voice for Peace, of which I am a member.
They were particularly calling out New York Senior Senator, Chuck Schumer for his willingness to support a bill that could
sabotage the ongoing talks to reach a final nuclear deal with Iran by the end of June, 2015. [caption id="attachment_6777"

peace and justice within, and by, Israel; JVP also seeks to limit Israel's destructive influence on the Palestinians and other
nations in the Middle East. Here's some of what this week's call to action said:

AIPAC’s #1 legislative goal this year has been to throw a wrench in diplomacy and march the US to war with
Iran. Unless each one of us picks up the phone in the next few days, they might actually succeed. The Obama
Administration is in the middle of negotiating a historic deal with Iran, but as soon as next week, the Senate
[Foreign Relations Committee] will vote on AIPAC’s centerpiece legislation. The Iran Nuclear Agreement
Review Act, sponsored by Republican Senator Bob Corker, would give Congress the power to reject any final
agreement with Iran. By funneling millions in campaign donations, AIPAC has spent years building a bipartisan
consensus for Israeli policies of endless occupation, war and dispossession. AIPAC seeks to ensure
unconditional support for Israeli military dominance in the name of security by inflaming fear of Iran’s nuclear
program, while Israel has maintained a large cache of nuclear weapons for decades without admitting it or
signing treaties. Unless we act now, AIPAC and the many Republicans who will do anything to oppose
President Obama, could succeed in undermining diplomacy, and possibly send us to war. This isn’t just about
Republican efforts to stymie the president— now Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer is recklessly supporting
the bill, encouraging other Democrats to sign on to this meshugenah effort. [...] (*meshugenah means "crazy
person" in Yiddish.*) As Jews and allies, it is critical that we state clearly that we support diplomacy with Iran
and reject AIPAC-led efforts to lead us down the path towards war.

of this behavior by Senator Schumer, (the third most powerful Senator now recommended to replace Senator Harry Reid in
the leadership of the Democratic Senatorial caucus), is that he might be able to encourage other Democratic senators to join
him in supporting this poison pill bill. Only 13 Democratic Senators would be needed to make it veto proof. This bill just
doesn't represent the wishes of the people of the United States or most of the world.
