Billion Rising for Justice logo and invitation for February 2014[/caption] One billion rising has grown out of a previous
campaign [V Day] started about 15 years ago by playwright Eve Ensler to end world wide violence against women. Last
year | attended one of the local events here in the Capital District of New York. In 2013 there was definitely a global
movement. With one billion people in 207 countries rising and dancing to publicly demand an end to violence against

who have suffered. or are in the midst of suffering all kinds of violence. The February 2014 campaign invites women and
their allies everywhere to RISE, RELEASE, DANCE, and demand JUSTICE! You can read more here. These are some of
the horrible facts that are motivating these continuing actions since the first V Day celebration. They came from one of the
websites about the Rise for Justice Campaign: ONE IN THREE WOMEN ON THE PLANET WILL BE RAPED OR
BEATEN IN HER LIFETIME. THAT IS ONE BILLION WOMEN. IN 2013, ONE BILLION WOMEN AND MEN
SHOOK THE EARTH THROUGH DANCE TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS. THIS YEAR, ON
14 FEBRUARY 2014 WE ARE CALLING ON WOMEN AND MEN EVERYWHERE TO HARNESS THEIR POWER
AND IMAGINATION TO RISE FOR JUSTICE. IMAGINE, ONE BILLION WOMEN RELEASING THEIR STORIES,
DANCING AND SPEAKING OUT AT THE PLACES WHERE THEY NEED JUSTICE, WHERE THEY NEED AN END
TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS. JOIN US! RISE. RELEASE. DANCE! [caption id="attachment_5551"
4, 2014[/caption] Most people have read about the gang rapes in various parts of India this year. That is an important issue
where the will of law enforcement and government to take this abuse seriously and put an end to it is demanded. Laws and
law enforcement need to go hand in hand with education of boys and men about the need to treat women with respect and
not with violence or domination. [caption id="attachment_5557" align="aligncenter" width="424"]

domestic violence are just two of a large variety of violence, injustice and inequality that women face in many countries,
including the United States. Some of the other types of violence and injustice that women (and children) face worldwide
besides rape, sexual assault, trafficking, and slavery also include childhood marriage, economic inequality, being seen as
inferior or as property, denial of education, rape as a weapon of war, poverty, malnutrition, lack of access to health and
reproductive care, life under occupation, drone attacks, bombings, ethnic violence, racism, military violence, and lack of
safety and shelter. And in many cases one or more of these affects the same woman or the same community simultaneously.
That's why this year each community, city, and country is being invited to choose the issues that are most urgent for them in
