—at 6 different locations — a powerful exhibit of 25 large, 5-feet tall murals reflecting on the impact of war on a civilian
population caught in crossfire. Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in Afghanistan will be on display in
Albany, Troy, Schenectady and Saratoga during the 4-week period of Oct 13-Nov11. To see details of each site’s dates,
hours, special receptions and speakers, scroll down to Upcoming Events at our website. Be sure to mark your calendar to see
the exhibit — and to hear the special speakers who will add to the power of the art with their own stories about the impact of
the war in Afghanistan, this month starting into its wt year. Here are 3 special events at the initial sites — Proctor’s Theatre
in Schenectady and the Skidmore's Wilson Chapel in Saratoga Springs. See the full schedule for more!
e¢ On Oct 13, Donna Marsh O’Connor, whose daughter was killed on 9/11, will talk about her work to counter the last
decade’s discourse of hate and fear -- at 5 PM in Skidmore’s Gannett Auditorium, near the Wilson Chapel exhibit site.
¢ On Oct 14, Proctor’s Theatre will have an Opening Reception for the Exhibit in its Albany International Gallery at
432 State St in Schenectady, from 5-7PM.
¢ On Oct 19, Ed Kinane, just returned from Afghanistan, will speak — “Eyewitness in Kabul: One Month in War-torn
Afghanistan”, at 5 PM in Skidmore’s Davis Auditorium, also near the exhibit.
The exhibit’s organizers say, “These artworks are windows for us on a war-torn country, but they are also mirrors reflecting
our identity as a nation that all too often resolves its problems through violence — both at home and abroad. We are present in
every shot fired, every missile launched, and very bomb dropped. Bu this is not our only option. We can also be present in
acts of reconciliation, community reconstruction and peaceful partnership. The choice is ours.” Women Against War is proud
to bring to our area this exhibit, created by the American Friends Service Committee in 2009 from contributions by more 40
muralists. For a preview of the powerful art and the exhibit’s full national schedule, visit http://windowsandmirrors.org/ .
