Come Meet Medea Benjamin!

By maudeaster on 2013-07-13 11:24:53

Do you remember the woman who interrupted President Obama’s May foreign policy speech to demand closure of the US
prison at Guantanamo? And the president’s response: "I'm willing to cut that young lady interrupting me some slack,
because it's worth being passionate about ... The voice of that woman is worth paying attention to." Well, that was Medea
Benjamin, co-founder of Code Pink and a fearless|».:medea benjamin 3 public voice for peace and justice. And Medea will
be here in the Capital District on Saturday, July 20, 2013. She is speaking at Troy Public Library (100 Second Street) at
10:30 AM on Drones Yemen, Guantanamo and More! Come and meet her! Medea and others in Code Pink are part of a
national movement of fasters and vigilers in support of the hunger strikers at Guantanamo — calling for an end to the US
policy of painful force feedings and, most importantly, for the release of the prisoners already determined to be no threat to
the US and for |».'guantanamo fast code pinkclosure of the prison. Here in the Capital District, Veteran for Peace Elliot

Adams has fasted since May 17'", and on Wednesday supporters vigilled with him on Central Avenue asking for the
immediate release of 86 prisoners at Guantanamo who have already been cleared as safe to be sent to other countries. I
greatly admire Medea Benjamin’s courage to challenge, in a strong and public voice. US policies not only at Guantanamo,
but around the world. She and others in Code Pink recently returned from Yemen where they met with civilian victims of US
drone strikes, and last October she was in Pakistan visiting villages targeted by US drones. Medea is speaking across the US
about her updated book, Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control. {OR Book Going Rouge CODEPINK is a women-
initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end U.S. funded wars and occupations, to challenge
militarism globally, and to redirect our resources into health care, education, green jobs and other life-affirming activities.
Women Against War is proud to be a local affiliate of Code Pink. Please come meet Medea and learn about their great
work!
