Back in the (bloggin') Saddle

By farrind on 2008-12-06 17:44:49

I had my first experience with blogging back in October, and by the usual cycle, I should not be writing here until the first of
the year. However, those of us writing Waging Peace arranged among ourselves for me to be in the threesome who will post
for December. I thought and cogitated about what to say- through last week, and of course, especially today! What I have to
offer today is partly from my daily life AND from reading ALL the posts and comments made in November. I wanted to be
up to date as I start my month Waging Peace! And reading these was fascinating. For example, the post by Mickie about two
weeks ago made me remember her fall- I happened to see her just after it happened...she indeed benfited from our efficient
medical system. All the posts close to Thanksgiving with the talk of gratitude also were in tune with my emotions... At my
job, I took a lunch break last week, and ate with a friend who is a citizen of India. I was talking (with gratitude) about my
holiday, and then the attacks on Mumbai came up and the conversation changed abruptly. You see, she had grown up there,
had visited the hotel where the terrorists struck, and still has family who are directly affected (though thankfully all her
relatives are safe). Her tone of voice became so worried, sober, and even hushed- though this IS America, and I don't think
she consciously thought she might be spied on as we talked over lunch! It was more of an unconscious hush, such as you
might use if speaking of someone who is on death's door. I left the lunch, again grateful that I live here but also very
concerned about the violence, and of course, wondering about its real origins. To close, I will say that for the rest of the
month, I hope those of you who read this- regularly, or even just once in a long while- will chime in, add comments, and as
Linda said a few comments back "continue this very civil dialog..". What a great phrase! Thank you, those who comment
and make this an interesting site- and the rest of you...what are you waiting for? Any thoughts about the terrorists of
Mumbai? Or on anything else lately? Anticipating a great month, farrind
