Dear Ollie and Nancy,

I know this might not be the best time to come begging, but KCADP does need any help
you can give us. You made a very generous $500 donation B.N.D. (before Notre Dame)
and I am hoping there is still something left with which to help us.

We are making progress. Gerald Neal told me recently that our efforts really did play a
key role in the governor’s decision to promise to commute Kevin Stanford. You are
already familiar with the passage of the bill to ban executions for mentally retarded
persons and the Kentucky Racial Justice Act, to try to minimize the impact of race on
decisions to seek death.

But, much more needs to be done and that means we still need and office and some staff.
Carl Wedekind has been extremely active and helpful, but plans to relinquish the
directorship of the Abolition Now! Campaign at the end of the next legislative session.
His efforts are chiefly responsible for our having the financial resources to fund the office
and staff.

So now, I am looking for a few good and very generous persons to commit to a non-
binding pledge of contributions over the next 5-years. Non-binding because
circumstances change (as in two additional kids end up in college), but pledged because
that helps us plan for the future. It is currently taking $50,000 to $60,000 a year to fund
the office. I’ve got budgets and actuals available if you want to see them.

Please give this some thought and let me know what might be possible. We recently cut
one staff person’s time in half and are hoping to get back where we can restore that time
now and know we can continue to function at full speed in the future.

Thanks!!!

Sincerely,

Pat
Chair
KCADP
