Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty
P.O. BOX 3092
Louisville, KY 40201-3092

Dear Fr. Delahanty and KCADP leadership:

Iam very interested in speaking with you about the Director of Public Education, Advocacy, and
Outreach position, and am enclosing the requested materials for your consideration. KCADP first
earned my respect as a partner at a rally with the organization for which I then worked. I have been
impressed with your strategy of community education combined with incremental legislative successes,
and I look forward to the opportunity to use my skills and experience to help expand and strengthen the
movement to abolish the death penalty.

As a manager, director, and lobbyist for progressive organizations and issue campaigns in 11 states, I
have earned a reputation for winning tough initiatives while building positive, lasting relationships and
coalitions.

My biggest strengths are strategic planning and bridge-building across diverse interest groups, creating
support for long-term systemic change. I excel at inspiring and leading allies, partners, volunteers, and
staff.

Ihave an advanced degree in nonprofit administration, extensive skills in advocacy, community
organizing and grassroots mobilization, and 14 years’ experience in urban and rural settings with
nonprofits and campaigns. I have worked successfully at the national, state, and local levels with
constituents and citizens, legislators and policy-makers, large and small businesses, member
organizations, and other allies.

My background includes work primarily in Kentucky on social justice issues including homelessness,
affordable housing, food insecurity, racial and economic justice, civil rights, minimum and living wage,
discrimination, and domestic violence especially as related to undocumented persons.

My public relations and communications skills include: excellent public speaking and presentation
skills for a variety of audiences, media relations, creating publications and written materials, “branding’
organizations and issues to advance the cause, policy analysis and research, internal and external
communications, and designing communication strategies.

I look forward to speaking with you about your needs and how I can be of service. You may reach me
by cell phone at your convenience at 270-869-5613.

Sincerely,

Rachel M. Hurst
