The death penalty in Kentucky does not work.

e Since 1976, 62% of ALL death penalty
convictions in Kentucky have been reversed.

¢ 95% of those eligible for the death penalty find a
way to get off. The 5% who do not are the POOR,
the MENTALLY ILL, and the UNLUCKY.

¢ Death penalty convictions in Kentucky come

from less than one-third of our counties.

The death penalty does not reduce violence.

e There is no credible evidence that the death
penalty deters more than does a sentence of life
without the possibility of parole.

e¢ The death penalty is prohibitively expensive,
costing even more than life without the possibility
of parole.

e Murder victims’ families have organized to
OPPOSE the death penalty.

Kentuckians are protected against murderers.

Kentucky now has the sentence of LIFE WITHOUT THE
POSSIBILITY OF PAROLE and a majority of Kentuckians prefer
this severe punishment instead of the death penalty.
