REPORT ON THE DEATH PENALTY
Ruth Kettman, CSJ
November 2012
St. Monica-St. George Parish Newman Center
Cincinnati, Ohio

. The SMSG website on the Death Penalty was updated by Michael with

information from Ruth. There are links to a number of good sites. A list of
those scheduled to be executed in Ohio into 2014 is also listed. Information there
is gathered from CMN information , OTSE in Ohio and IJPC.

Parish website: www.smsgparishonline.com (death penalty section)

The DP table in the back of church holds new information: Quotes & Facts,
Renewing a Culture of Life, brochures, buttons and copies of two of Helen
Prejean’s books: Dead Man Walking and The Death of Innocents.

Be sure to check it out and pick up some of the information.

The next scheduled execution in Ohio is on November 13. Brett Hartman.

Petition to sign for clemency for Brett Hartman is on the back table.

International Human Rights Day is December 10. Continue to advocate to
abolish the death penalty. The focus this year focuses on the progress made in the
past 10 years and on challenges ahead. The last decade has seen a large increase
in the number of countries that have officially abolished the death penalty or
eliminated the use of the death penalty in practice.

In the United States, 141 death row inmates (including one two weeks ago) have
been freed. That number includes seven in Ohio, two in 2012. The latest two
includes Joe D’ Ambrosio who spoke at SMSG in April along with Fr. Neil
Kookoothe, his attorney.

Bulletin pieces, parishioner weekly emails and intercessory prayers will call

attention to these needs.
