Death Penalty Abolition Capacity Building Grants
Request for Proposal

Thanks to a renewed contribution from an anonymous donor, Tides Foundation is pleased to continue
the Capacity Building Grants program, launched in 2015, to support state grassroots organizations in
increasing their ability to raise financial resources from local and national sources. These grants are
designed to complement Tides’ in-kind grant program, where grantees receive individualized fundraising
coaching from the Suddes Group, ultimately bolstering each grantee’s ability to raise funds and sustain
their abolition efforts.

Size of Grants: Up to $5,000.
Total Funding Available for 2016: $60,000.

Eligibility: Any organization who is currently receiving the in-kind grant and fundraising coaching by the
Suddes Group is eligible to apply. Grant funds should be used for the purpose of increasing the grantee’s
ability to raise financial support from local sources. Funds CANNOT be used for lobbying or political
activities.

Application Questions: Please provide concise answers to the following questions in Word or PDF. Your
application should not exceed two pages.
1. How do you plan to utilize this grant to expand your fundraising efforts?
2. How do you measure success? Please be specific about what financial/fundraising outcomes
you are aiming to achieve.
3. Please provide a simple budget for your request.

Application Deadline: Rolling deadline. Decisions will be made approximately 3-4 weeks after
submission.

Submission Instructions: Please submit your answers to the above questions and provide your contact
information (including mailing address, phone number, and email) to deathpenalty @tides.org, with the
subject line “DPA Capacity Support Application”.
