Doug Stern, Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty

Names

e The name at the top of Robbie’s list was Fr. John
Rausch. He’s in Stanton. She mentioned the annual
Aug. 13, 2006, peace and justice picnic for the
Lexington Diocese as an opportunity to claim time,
space or both. Fr. Rausch apparently has some role in
organizing this event. He’s a member of the Glenmary
order. (His name has come up before in conversations
with Kaye and Pat.)

e Fr. John Moriarty is also in Lexington. He may,
however, be moving.

e Robbie mentioned a couple of names in Frankfort. Pat
Stewart is at Good Shepherd. And, Sr. Susan Baumann is
listed in KCADP’s first newsletter at a “citizen
lobbyist” in 2001 on our behalf in Frankfort.

e Jerry Hardt, Salyersville, is also active with
Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. (His name has come
up before in conversations with Kaye and Pat.)

e In Pikeville, there’s Fr. Will Frenzel (sp?).

e Robbie gave us several non-Catholic names. Ben Poage,
Richmond, is the former director the Appalachian
Ministries Education Resource Center. (298 Harrison
Road Berea, KY 40403 Phone: 859-986-8789.) AMERC’s Web
site identifies Ben as a consultant for institutional
advancement. She mentioned that she knows Lon Oliver,
director of AMERC. Kent Gilbert is with the Union
Church in Berea. Loyal Jones is the former director of
the Appalachian Center at Berea College.

e Fr. John Curtis is also in Berea.

e Sr. Marge Eilerman is in Booneville, Owsley County.
She’s profiled in an interesting article posted on
http://www. soaw.org/new/newswire detail. php?id=509,
which includes a description of her imprisonment in
connection with a 1998 protest at the School of the
Americas.

Sr. Helen

¢ Robbie seemed keen on getting us to think about
inviting Sr. Helen Prejean to speak. I’m not sure
about their connection, but I gather that Robbie can be
very helpful in getting Sr. Helen here if it’s deemed
important enough. Robbie stressed the need to give
this plenty of time, as Sr. Helen is booked about two
years in advance.
