Catholic Mobilizing Network to End Use of the Death Penalty
November 2012 Report to CSJ Ministry Against the Death Penalty Board

It is now over four years since the inception of Catholic Mobilizing Network. We are pleased to report
that CMN is now an organized entity promoting its mission to educate Catholics on the Church’s
teaching on the death penalty, recognized nationally in the abolition community and accepted by the
USCCB Department of Pro Life Activities as well as the Department of Justice, Peace and Human
Development. Educational Workshops have been developed and revised on the death penalty and a
workshop on restorative justice is in progress. A substantial number of publications have been created
and distributed. An active website is constantly updated and serves as the Catholic communication
network for the most current activities on the national level on our issue. State interaction continues to
increase. Outreach to Hispanic Catholics and young Catholics continue to grow. Educational programs
for seminarians and deacons are also in progress. Presence at Catholic conventions and interaction with
national Catholic organizations has been substantial and has contributed to rapid growth. Through our
work with Mt. St. Mary’s University CMN will be the distributor of the book soon to be published by
Liturgical Press: Where Justice and Mercy Meet: Catholic Opposition to the Death Penalty.

With systems regarding ending the death penalty in place CMN’s concentration is shifting to developing
programs that educate Catholics on Restorative Justice as a core Christian principle.
