November 2021
Hello,
We hope this letter finds you well! While many of you may be familiar with us, allow us to introduce
ourselves to those of you who aren’t. We are KCADP’s Co-directors of Organizing, Tialisha Lumpkin
and Russell Allen. Since joining the organization in April we have been focused on putting in place
critical infrastructure for our fight for abolition.
Kentucky is primed and ready for abolition of the death penalty. Kentucky hasn’t executed a person
since 2008 and juries just don’t have the appetite to give the death penalty in new cases. Still, we have
prosecutors’ offices in our largest counties pursuing those cases and most of our legislators claim there
is no political will to do the right thing. You are the push they need.
Over the next year, KCADP will be fighting on several fronts to achieve abolition of the death penalty.
Those fronts include:
- pushing for a ban on executions for severely mentally ill persons (SMI)
- Statewide abolition education/training
- Putting pressure on prosecutors to stop pursuing DP cases
To achieve these goals, we need financial support. We are calling on you to help us finish the year
strong. Your support will help us to get a head start on completing our 2022 goals. It will assist
with printing materials, travel costs, website redesign as well as many other expenses necessary to
run a successful abolition campaign.
For your convenience, we have enclosed a return envelope for your contribution. We thank all those
who have supported KCADP for so many years and would appreciate your continued support. Accept
our deepest appreciation for considering this request. Working together we will abolish the death
penalty.
Sincerely yours,
Tialisha Lumpkin and Russell Allen
