Dear Friend of Abolition,
| am writing to let you know we are making progress toward abolition of the death penalty as we
celebrate our 30" anniversary of incorporation as the Kentucky Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
In the session of the General Assembly just ended, an abolition bill sponsored by Republican
Chad McCoy of Bardstown, a member of the House leadership, attracted 29 additional sponsors from
both parties. And in the Senate a bill to forbid execution severely mentally ill persons cleared the Senate
Judiciary Committee. Though neither bill passed, this is significant progress for our campaign.
We are looking forward to next year’s General Assembly and during the interim will be traveling
Kentucky bringing the message of abolition to everyone we can.
We need your help and your email address. Because postage has increased dramatically and
because our supporters’ list has grown considerably, KCADP cannot continue to use the U. S. Postal
service to communicate with you by mail.
You are receiving this letter because we do not have an email address for you and we are
hoping you will share it with us. We will not burden you with countless emails, but only contact you when
there is a significant development in the work to abolish the death penalty OR there is a request for you to
take action on a bill by contacting your legislator. If a governor is considering signing a death warrant or
has signed one, we would urge action on your part opposing his decision to execute anyone.
Please help us stay in touch with you:
¢ by sending us an email to kcadp3092@gmail.com and include your name and current
mailing address with zipcode; or
« by using the enclosed envelope and printing your email address clearly in the blank
provided on the envelope and mailing it back to the office. The address is on the
envelope.
Most of all we need to be able to stay in touch and regular mail is no longer the smart and
effective way for that to happen. Please take just a moment to provide your email address. If you do
not have an email address, please use the enclosed envelope to let us know that and be sure we
have a phone number where you can be reached and alerted to take action.
As always, thank you for your past support and let’s hope it doesn’t take another 30 years before
we have ended the death penalty in Kentucky.
Sincerely,
Aaron Bentley
